Facility Siting

The Tontitown Landfill consists of an active Class 1 municipal solid waste landfill and Class 4 construction and demolition debris landfill located in Tontitown, Arkansas (Washington County).

The Tontitown facility covers 543 acres of land, of which 66 acres are permitted as a Class 1 landfill and 28 acres are permitted as a Class 4 landfill. Approximately 450 acres serve as buffer around the landfill.

The landfill is located in a predominantly rural area off of Arbor Acres Road, surrounded by vineyards, cattle farms and rural estates.

Northwest Arkansas has seen its population grow by more than 45 percent over the past decade. It is now the sixth fastest-growing region in America, with a 60 percent employment growth in the last decade. The Milken Institute recently ranked the Fayetteville, Springdale and Rogers Metropolitan Statistical Area as the nation's top performer in 2003 for job growth. This continued growth requires the appropriate infrastructure, including the ability to handle the increased volume of waste for the region.
