Arkansas Audubon Town Branch Creek Project

Geographical Area to Benefit from the Project:

The area to be benefited by the proposed project would include the entire watershed of Town Creek, would include Washington County and the City of Fayetteville.

Type of Project:

Pollution prevention/reduction and Environmental regulatory compliance/technical assistance.

Project Description:

The Town Branch Creek Project ("TBCP") is a proposal from Audubon Arkansas. TBCP is an urban development and storm-water run-off demonstration project. Town Branch Creek, located in the White River watershed, is located in the City of Fayetteville. A developer has proposed construction of a 40+ acre multi-family development in the Town Branch sub-basin between US62 and 15th Street.

The TBCP will facilitate pollution prevention and reduction by informing area residents about run-off management practices through a Creek Clinic administered by the Game & Fish Commission. This will help both the developers and residents better understand the necessity of preventing the loss of important riparian areas.

Further, the TBCP will establish a gauging station on Town Branch Creek to monitor water quality. The Town Branch Creek sub-basin will benefit from continued assessment and scientifically quantified monitoring practices. The community as a whole will benefit by having accurate data regarding sediment and nutrient run-off as it flows into the White River watershed.

Expected Environmental Benefits:

The environmental benefit of this project will be the generation of more current data to support more stringent storm water runoff controls.
